This weekend has been organised by the French Chapter of the Society for members across all chapters to get together for a weekend of special, privileged visits in and around Paris.

The weekend begins on Friday 13 November at 11.00am with a curator-led visit to the exhibition Mes Chers Amis. Drawings in the Collections of 19th-Century French Artists at the Fondation Custodia (limited to 20 participants). The day continues with a visit to Galerie Kugel, renowned for the high quality and range of fine works of art from the sixteenth century onwards. The day will finish around drinks in central Paris hosted by the Society.

On Saturday 14 November we will spend the day at the Château de Fontainebleau starting at 10.30. We will be guided by curator Jean Vittet, who has kindly agreed to lead a visit of the exhibition Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI in the morning and of the royal apartments in the afternoon. Each participant will purchase their own standard ticket upon entry. An optional group lunch will be arranged, to be paid for individually.

On Sunday 15 November, we are being given exclusive access to visit the exhibition Jeanne Du Barry: l’invention d’une favorite at the Musée du Domaine royal de Marly, finishing by 1.00pm for those leaving Paris that afternoon.

Participants must make their own arrangements for travel and hotels.

The curator-led tours at Fondation Custodia and Fontainebleau, as well as the visit to Galerie Kugel, are kindly being provided free of charge. There will be a small daily charge to cover the Society’s administrative costs (including drinks on Friday and gifts for curators) and the charge for the private visit to the Musée du Domaine royal de Marly. This fee will be covered by the Society for all students whose membership is in good standing. The Society for the History of Collecting is an international educational charity registered in the UK. All proceeds and donations help us to deliver our mission to foster local engagement, scholarly exchange, and community-building around the history of collecting.

Members interested in attending this weekend should email the Events Committee at events.sochistcoll@gmail.com stating which days they wish to join. You may join the trip for one, two or all three days. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Please ensure that your membership is up to date.
