'The Rise of Private Museums:
The Intersection of Public and Private in Latin America'
on Monday, 30 June 2025 at 11:00am (GMT)
The Society is delighted to collaborate with Classic Art London (www.classicartlondon.uk) to organise a talk delivered by Lassla Esquivel on Latin American Private Museums.
Using a selection of representative case studies, this talk will give an overview of the different strategies that specific types of Latin American private museums use to operate; how they fill gaps in their local cultural ecosystems, and will reflect on the impact they have on existing cultural infrastructures at both national and international levels. It will consider their ambivalent position as institutional validating entities and market forces simultaneously, and how they have transformed the perception of specialised and non-specialised audiences, moving collections from private to public walls.
