is pleased to invite you to a panel discussion on

'On the Front Line: Women Driving the Art World'

on Tuesday, 10 June 2025 at 10:00am (BST)

The Society is delighted to collaborate with WAAW (https://waawworld.com/) and Classic Art London (www.classicartlondon.uk) to organise a panel discussion on the remarkable but often overlooked work that women collectors, patrons and curators played in driving the art world both in London and in New York at the beginning of the 20th century. Bringing fresh evidence to the discussion, our contributors will unearth fascinating stories which shaped the development of the art world as we know it. The conversation will be led by Dr Irene Walsh and Dr Isobel Muir, and moderated by Dr Marie Tavinor.

Contributors' biographies:

Dr Isobel Muir held curatorial roles at the Royal Collection Trust and at the National Gallery. She recently completed an AHRC-supported collaborative doctoral research project on Jewish collectors and cultural philanthropists at the National Gallery, 1824–1945.

Dr Irene Walsh is a London-based, independent art historian and writer focused on European and American modern art, museums, and the art markets. She has just published a book on Lillie P. Bliss, founding figure of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Dr Marie Tavinor is the Programme Director of the Executive Master in Cultural Leadership at the Royal Academy of Arts. She is also the Co-Chair of the international Society for the History of Collecting.
