The Society for the History of Collecting is pleased to invite you to
a tour of the exhibition 'Il Tesoro di Terrasanta' at the Museo Marini, Florence
Tuesday, 3 December, 4-6 pm (CET)
led by Leyla Bezzi, exhibition curator, in Italian
Registrations will close 1 December
The exhibition is dedicated to the priceless donations made over the centuries by the great courts of Europe to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, with particular focus on the gifts made by the Grand Dukedom of Tuscany.
The Museo Marini is well suited to this exhibition inasmuch as within the museum stands the Rucellai Chapel, containing a copy of the Holy Sepulchre Shrine, as it was at the end of the 15th century, the work of Leon Battista Alberti.
Following on from this masterpiece, the exhibition offers more than 100 works of inestimable value, including the Altar of Calvary donated by Ferdinand I de Medici. Also featured are gifts of Charles Bourbon, King of Naples, including a gold and silver altar pallioto.
