Dear Society colleagues,
We have organised a visit to Stourhead House and Gardens for Tuesday 10th September. The house was amongst the first Palladian villas to be built in England. The landscape garden is amongst the best examples of the 18th century English landscape garden, and amongst the best preserved.
Our plan for the day is to meet at Stourhead House at 11am and to begin with a tour focused on the paintings, sculpture, and furniture collection.
Lunch will be at Midday. There are three main options for lunch:
1. The Spread Eagle Inn
2. The National Trust restaurant
3. Take away options from the Farm Shop
Lunch will be from Midday to 2pm, after which we will meet at the Lakeside Garden Entrance (location number 17 on the Stourhead map) for a garden tour. This will be led by John Harrison and will conclude at 4pm.
The visit cost for the day is £15 for National Trust members which covers the Trust’s charge for a house and garden group tour. Non-members will need to pay £35 (including the daily ticket entrance fee) to gain access to the house and garden. National Trust members must bring membership cards to gain access to the house and garden.
Registration for the visit closes on 6 September.
