The Americas Chapter is delighted to invite you to
a curatorial tour of Hidden Faces: Covered Portraits of the Renaissance
with Alison Nogueira, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
Friday, June 14 at 10:15am
Revelatory in multiple senses of the word, Hidden Faces: Covered Portraits of the Renaissance displays the hidden sides of paintings from northern and southern Europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. How these portraits were displayed and experienced is deeply implicated in cultures of collecting both north and south of the Alps. The messages encoded in the symbols and iconography act as a secret language to be translated.
